The enterprise Centre at the University of East Anglia is the largest exterior thatched building in Europe, and was built using wood from nearby Thetford Forest.

Conceived by the Adapt Low Carbon Group, designed by sustainable architects Architype and built by Morgan Sindall, all new materials were sustainably sourced with a minimum carbon footprint. To minimise carbon emissions the building makes use of local timber and straw cladding, as well as promoting the use of renewable materials throughout.

The use of straw as insulation material has significantly increased insulation value and enables The Enterprise Centre to satisfy PassivHaus standards – reserved for ultra-low energy consumption buildings.
